It can be extremely hard for some people to muster up the courage to speak in public but there are a few things that you can do which will not only make you feel more comfortable when it comes time to deliver your speech but they will allow you to perform better when the time comes. With practice these public speaking tips are going to make you feel much better the next time you are going to have to some public speaking.
- I cannot stress enough how important preparation is when it comes to public speaking, the more time you spend practising and going over your lines the easier it is going to be on the day.
- Try not to get too stressed out on the day, I know this may seem hard but if there is anything that you can do to make yourself more relaxed like listening to your favourite music or going for a long walk, whatever helps you to relax will be something that you should try and make time for of the day of the public speaking appearance.
- Drink plenty of water during the day because this will help your brain to be more alert and you will find it easier to focus on the job in hand. Just remember to go to the toilet before you have to go on stage!
- Try not to use too many visual aids during your speech. Having a few slides is a great way to get your point across sometimes but the audience will want to hear what you have to say and having to many things like slides and other visual aids can take the personal touch away and people then become bored and lose interest.
- You must know who your audience are. Before you even write your speech you will need to know what the group of people are going to be like, their interests, background, anything you can find out about them will help you in writing a speech that is going to have them interested in what your saying and hanging on your every word.
